Rebecca Powell, LICSW
Taking the first step in seeking out psychotherapy can be overwhelming, and it also demonstrates a tremendous amount of courage. Our work together will allow you to hold both truths as you begin the journey towards an improved relationship with self and others. I approach the development of a therapeutic relationship as an opportunity for collaboration, curiosity, insight, and mutual respect. Foundationally, my approach is client-centered and strengths-based. My experience lies in working with individuals from young adulthood through older adulthood (18+) navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, relational challenges and identity development. My eclectic therapeutic style allows for clinical intervention that is targeted to your unique needs and experiences.
My training and experience are founded in psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, and trauma-informed approaches and additionally informed by CBT and DBT. I am an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trained clinician, actively pursuing EMDRIA certification, and use the technique with my clients to assist in an integrated mind-body healing experience from the lasting effects of trauma. Additionally, I am fully trained in use of the Flash Technique – a trauma-informed therapeutic technique targeted towards the resolution of single-episode traumatic memory and phobia. I am a passionate advocate for the destigmatization of mental health challenges and aim to create a therapeutic space that emanates warmth, acceptance, and empowerment.
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Massachusetts. I earned my MSW from Simmons University following the completion of a BA in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire with a minor in Creative Writing. Prior to joining Equilibria Mental Health, I worked in outpatient psychotherapy at a group practice in Cambridge, MA. I completed my maters-level internships in the Partial Hospital Program at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, as well as the Department of Mental Health where I was engaged in clinical and assessment roles. Prior to beginning my MSW program, I worked in inpatient psychiatry at Haverhill Pavilion as a mental health worker.
In my free time I enjoy writing creative non-fiction and poetry, snuggling with my cat Leilah, baking desserts, walking in nature, and spending time with family and friends.
